EES provides mission-critical engineering support at the William J. Hughes Technical Center, FAA's premier research and test facility, to facilitate the safety and efficiency of Air Traffic Control services on a nation-wide level. EES provides ongoing sustainment and evolution of the supporting infrastructure for the National Airspace System in multiple domain areas. We have an imminent opening for highly-qualified candidates with applicable expertise in systems engineering to support the Engineering Development Services Division's Navigation Branch.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Support the operation, maintenance, monitoring, and upgrade of the GPS Ground Based Augmentation System (GBAS) including the Local Area Augmentation System (LAAS) Test Prototype (LTP), the Satellite Landing System (SLS) prototype, Ground Based Performance Monitors (GBPM) and associated service predictions.
  • Support Standards evaluation, RTCA/ICAO support, and System Design Approvals.
  • Support the execution and evaluation of performance data collected from fielded GBAS stations, GBAS performance monitors, the National Satellite Test Bed (NSTB), Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) and Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS).
  • Support the maintenance and operation of the Surface Trajectory-Based Operations (STBO) laboratory infrastructure.
  • Support the engineering, operational evaluations, and simulation of Alternative Positioning Navigation and Timing (APNT) capabilities for communication, navigation, timing, and surveillance applications for aviation in the event of a loss of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS).
  • Support the planning, development, engineering, and modeling/simulation associated with the integration of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) into the National Airspace System (NAS).


Basic Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Bachelor's Degree (Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or related field).
  • 15+ years of experience in enterprise software design and development.
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, multiple Databases, Enterprise Messaging Services, and Web Services.
  • Experience integrating, deploying, and maintaining real-time Enterprise server-client system.
  • Proficient with JAVA/J2EE/XML, Object Oriented programming, Service Oriented Architecture design/development.
  • Experience with ATD-2 IADS Clients: STBO Integrated Departure Scheduling Tool (IDST), Ramp Manager Traffic Console (RTC/RMTC), Data Analysis and System Health (DASH) and What-If-System tool.
  • Experience with Precision Departure Release Capability (PDRC).
  • Experience with Spot and Runway Departure Advisor (SARDA).
  • Experience with Time Based Flight Management (TBFM), Traffic Flow Management System (TFMS), Terminal Flight Data Management (TFDM), and/or Advanced Electronic Flight Strips (AEFS) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Airport Surface Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) Concept of Operations.
